Despacito was a track from the year 2017 that was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top streamed and downloaded song in the world within the space of six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music not only brought an interest to the genre, but it also brought attention to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 included four mostly Spanish tracks in 2016 as opposed to two in 2015. The Despacito album reached its peak popularity in 2017, 19 songs mainly composed in Spanish were in at the very top of 100. The number grew to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with an English version in the year 2017 shortly after which famous artists started working together with reggaeton groups. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny for the production of MIA (2018) and Madonna worked on Medellin along with Maluma (2019). Certain reggaeton performers have criticized the shift to mainstream music in 2020. But a new group, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the development and growth of reggaeton. He often used electronic dance, as well as other styles.
